Leakey ISD Athletic Booster Club Donates $500 to Frio Canyon EMS Inc.
On Thursday evening, November 5th, the Leakey ISD junior high football team played their final game of the season at Eagle Stadium. At half-time and after the Leakey junior high cheerleaders had finished their dance routine, a group of folks gathered at the thirty yard line in front of the home side bleachers. Representatives of both the Leakey ISD Athletic Booster Club and Frio Canyon Emergency Medical Services Incorporated met so that the school could, in a very public way, express thanks and appreciation to the volunteers of Frio Canyon EMS Inc. who have very faithfully provided an ambulance and EMT attendants at each of the junior high and high school home football games during the 2009 Leakey Eagle football season.
In the absence of Leakey ISD Athletic Booster Club President, Beatsie Rubio, Vice President Martin Martinez and Treasurer Duke Hohman presented a $500 check to Frio Canyon EMS Inc. Deputy Administrators Rick Thomas and Donna Cone. Other representatives of the Frio Canyon EMS Inc. who were present as the check exchanged hands included: Betty Jo Bates, Brenda Gonzalez, Kathy Armke, and Shawn Gray. This generous gift by the Booster Club was designated for the Frio Canyon EMS building fund. The Frio Canyon EMS Inc. very badly needs a new facility and once the funds needed for construction are subscribed then they will be able to move forward with their building plans. The Frio Canyon EMS Inc. was founded in 1975 to provide the greater Leakey community area with first responders who are trained to provide emergency care to the citizens of our community.
For the past several years the Frio Canyon EMS Inc. has, very faithfully, had an ambulance and EMT attendants ready to provide emergency medical services to the athletes of Leakey ISD and to the athletes of the schools who are our opponents on the field of play. In many instances, in other communities, similar ambulance services traditionally charge schools $200 or more each game to have an ambulance available! Frio Canyon EMS Inc. has never charged Leakey ISD for this very valuable service and the School Board and administration of Leakey ISD wants to take this opportunity to publicly thank our friends at Frio Canyon EMS Inc. for their very generous and faithful financial support of our school and athletes!
This year we have been fortunate that we have not had any injuries to our athletes that would require immediate medical attention or transportation of players to area hospitals; nevertheless, these highly trained emergency medical technicians have been present and ready to serve if needed! Thanks so much Fro Canyon EMS Inc. for all you do for our school and students.
