Leakey ISD Invites Community to Participate in Thanksgiving Meal
On Friday, November 20th the Leakey ISD lunchroom staff will serve a traditional Thanksgiving meal to all the students who attend Leakey ISD. In addition to serving the school students we are inviting the parents and relatives of our students and any and all of the folks who live in the Frio Canyon community area to come to school and share this holiday meal with us! Leakey ISD will observe the Thanksgiving holiday by dismissing all students at noon on Wednesday, November 25th. Classes will not be held at Leakey ISD on either November 26th or November 27th. Classes will resume at 8:00 a.m. on Monday, November 30th.
Our lunchroom staff composed of cooks, Alice Boatright, Mary Longoria, and Tonya Canales, will prepare the food in the school cafeteria kitchen and the meal will be served in the Lloyd Buttler gymnasium. In addition to serving approximately two hundred school children, we are anticipating the participation of at least two hundred guests. Mrs. Boatright is our newest lunchroom employee and the grandmother of two Leakey ISD students; Deidre and Joseph Sequeira. Ms. Longoria has served on the cafeteria staff for the past six years. Ms. Canales has been employed by the district for the past four years. Currently the lunchroom manager position is vacant and former lunchroom supervisor, Martha Tom will fill in to assist the cooks in preparing this meal!
The menu for this special Thanksgiving meal will include: smoked turkey and gravy, cornbread dressing, tossed salad with ranch dressing, green beans, glazed sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, a wheat roll, fresh fruit and milk. Iced tea will be served to our adult guests. The cost of the meal will be $4.00 per person for adults. Children not enrolled in Leakey ISD will be charged $2.00 for the meal.
We will begin serving this holiday meal at 10:30 a.m. and will serve continuously until 1:00 p.m. Guests are welcome to participate at any point during these times. If you wish to eat with a child who attends our school then please make a note of the serving times for the students. Kindergarten: 10:30 a.m; First grade: 10:40 a.m; Second grade: 10:50 a.m; Third grade: 11:00 a.m; Fourth grade: 11:10 a.m; Fifth grade: 11:20 a.m; Sixth grade: 11:30 a.m; Seventh grade: 11:40 a.m; Eighth grade 11:50 a.m; Ninth and Tenth grades: 12:00 noon, and Eleventh and Twelfth grade: 12:10 p.m.
The gymnasium will be appropriately and beautifully decorated for the Thanksgiving season and placemats will be made by our elementary art students and placed on the tables. Please mark your calendar and plan to join us on Friday, November 20th and participate in this traditional Thanksgiving meal. The food will be delicious and you will enjoy the fellowship with our students as well. We hope to see you on Friday, November 20th!
We want to publicly thank our outstanding cafeteria staff for all their hard work in planning, and producing this delicious Thanksgiving meal! It requires a lot of extra time and effort to produce such a holiday meal but our cafeteria staff very cheerfully accepts and completes the task because they know what it means to our students and their guests!
