Leakey ISD School Board Recognizes October Students of the Month

Three outstanding Leakey ISD students were recently selected by the Leakey ISD faculty to receive the prestigious honor of being named one of the Students of the Month for October! They are: David Hocker, Amanda Ramos, and Sarah Rubio. We are very proud of these students and want you to know more about them! Here is what our teachers wrote about these outstanding students!

David Hocker-The one word to describe this young man is first-rate! The son of Stacy and Carrie Hocker, David likes to play soccer at recess, and his favorite school subject is science. David is proud of his outstanding grades as are his parents! Playing video games, especially one called “Halo” on his X-Box 360 is his favorite hobby. His favorite place is Schlitterbahn, and he likes to read action novels in his spare time. In the future David would like to become a veterinarian or video game designer. This outstanding young man is truly an example of a highly successful person and we expect him to be the “boss” at the office one day!

Amanda Ramos- This vivacious young lady lives with her family in Concan. We are always pleased to accept transfer students of this caliber! Amanda is the daughter of Melissa Nuno and R. J. Lopez. She has a younger brother Luis who is in the first grade at Leakey ISD. Amanda is in the sixth grade and all of her teachers are so impressed with her excellent work ethic. Amanda always strives to give her best in the classroom. Her kind, gentle, and polite manner is appreciated by her teachers and classmates alike. Amanda is in the beginning band and is learning how to play the trombone! Mr. Austin reports that Amanda is a very talented musician! Keep up the good work, Amanda.

Sarah Rubio-This outstanding young lady was born in Kerrville and is the daughter of Pablo (Beasie) Rubio and Bella Rubio. She has lived her entire life in Leakey and is currently a junior at Leakey High School. After graduating from high school in the spring of 2011, Sarah plans to attend college but at this time is unsure what she will study or which college she will attend. This young lady is truly a scholar athlete as she maintains a straight “A” grade average and is an accomplished athlete! Currently she is a starter on the varsity volleyball team, and she will play basketball and run track later in the school year. Sarah is also active in 4-H, ballet, NHS, and is currently serving as the president of her junior class! In her own words, Sarah says “God, my family, and my friends are the best medicine for any problem I have”.

These students were honored at a regular School Board meeting on the evening of October 12, 2009. Students selected for this award are based on deportment, citizenship, attitude, work habits, friendliness, and academic performance. In addition to an attractive framed certificate, each student received a $25.00 gift certificate to one of three restaurants in town. The proprietors of Mama Choles’ Mexican Restaurant, The Frio Canyon Lodge Restaurant, or Vinny’s Italian Restaurant have faithfully donated these gift certificates each month for the past four years! The Leakey ISD administration wishes to publicly thank these wonderful friends for their very faithful financial support of our school and students!
